Which Blinds Are Best For a Home Office?

Although many people will fit a conventional window treatment in their home office — such as a pair of curtains — it can be beneficial to opt for something quite different in a workspace. If you have curtains in every other room of your home, then fitting blinds in your study or office will give it a different feel and that is likely to put you more in the mood for working. After all, working from home often means there are plenty of distractions, so making your décor as office-like as possible in your workspace makes sense. If you are going to opt for a set of blinds in your home office, then which ones will make the most sense for you?

Vertical Blinds

You will see vertical blinds installed in offices all over Australia, and it is easy to understand why. Firstly, vertical blinds can be pulled across horizontally — just like a pair of curtains — so you can maximise the amount of available sunlight when you need to obtain a light and airy feel. However, it is easy to pull them across and then regulate the amount of sunlight coming in by altering the angle of the suspended slats. This makes them ideal if you have a north-facing home office because you can move the slats around to shift with the moving sun as the day progresses. This way, you'll obtain a good level of light without undue glare in the morning, the afternoon and as the sun drops in the evening.

Venetian Blinds

Affording a classier look than vertical ones, Venetian blinds provide a high degree of light control, too. However, because their slats are horizontally orientated, you can also adjust them to provide a greater level of privacy. If your home office is on the first floor or not overlooked by any nearby buildings, then this won't be a big consideration. However, ground floor offices which face the street or neighbours' houses will benefit from the ability to adjust the slats so prying eyes are kept at bay. Venetian blinds need to be dusted regularly, but when they are looked after, they will provide many years of service.

Roller Blinds

The most cost-effective solution, roller blinds are ideal if you are just setting up your home office and experimenting with the look you want. Because they are simple to operate, there is very little to go wrong with roller blinds. You can obtain them in any length you need and they'll even fit on the back of a glazed door, so they offer flexibility, as well. However, you don't get the same level of light control since they can only be raised or lowered.
